After many months of ceaseless effort, the new Transglobalist.com has arrived. You may abandon your somber candlelight vigils at once and move instead towards something more celebratory: candlelight meals served au naturel, reclining on (faux-)bearskin rugs in front of (non-faux-)fireplaces. Champagne will likely be appropriate.
Before you stock up on chocolate strawberries and rush off to your Aspen timeshares, however, allow me a few words about the new site, its organization, and what you can expect to see over the coming months.
If I did my job well, I don’t need to say much about this. The two main ways I’ve organized content on the website are the Blog, and the Travelogues section. The blog is, well, a blog. It works like a blog. Because I’m a blogger.
But the Travelogues are a bit different. Each travelogue is a single-trip portfolio–a collection of all the writing and images that were generated during an adventure. They all follow the same format. Let’s use Rajasthan Odyssey (2016) as an example.
After the featured image–my lovely, way-too-small rental bike vogueing in front of an abandoned desert building–come the Adventure Stats. Where, When, What, and How Far?
After that, comes a short letter of introduction. I explain a bit about the genesis of the trip–what possessed me to go, and what it took to pull it off. This is the How and the Why. Off to the side will be a teaser image from the trip, and a detailed caption; something I hope will provide an emotional window into the journey. It may or may not have buttons at the bottom linking to video content. I love to edit videos, so when I have the time and enough footage, you’ll find the links here.
Finally, if you’ve made it that far, you’ll find a collection of photo galleries and blog posts that I created during the trip. I’m still working out the final format for gallery presentation, but right now each gallery opens in-place, inside the lightbox that will open when you click it. This is the extended, exhaustive, perhaps exhausting answer to What?
