[ Chiquimula, Guatemala ]
Hola queridas transglobalistas y saludos desde el oriente de Guatemala.
One week ago today I stowed my bicycle and most of my belongings and hopped a bus to Chiquimula. My plan was to visit an old paragliding buddy and his family during the second annual Chiquimula Open—a small, FAI-sanctioned competition just getting off the ground. So to speak.
As hoped, I’ve spent the last week documenting the event, and even managed to get back in the air for the first time in six years—as airborne photographer and homesick-for-altitude passenger on a two-hour cross-country flight.
What follows are a few event highlights, including a breathtaking passage over the Laguna de Ipala—a crystal-clear lake which fills the crater atop Volcan de Ipala.
And yes, I’m aware I still owe you an update on my Big News…but these past few days have absolutely been worth the delay.
Hasta pronto, amigos.
